The Faculty of Law was established in 1968, as a centre of quality education in the study of Law and Legal Sciences, and to promote the development of a well-rounded scholar and advocate. The first graduating class (1968-71) was made up of 17 male students and 6 women.On 22nd May 1997, H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda and then Chancellor of Makerere University officially opened an extension of the Faculty of Law Building.Today, female enrollment at the School of Law averages 40 percent, and whereas the School opened with only 6 teachers, today teaching staff is over thirty, comprising 24 men and 8 women. All are Ugandan academics who have distinguished themselves in their respective Law disciplines.
